Knee Replacement
Posted by: Adam Fuson @ 2007.09.09.2227
Monday, August 20 I took my mom to Jewish Hospital at Kenwood to have her right knee replaced. Aunt Dee, the Captain, Ruthie and Mike, and I all accompanied Mom into pre-op. Even Ryan Helmick stopped by from his residency duties to chat with us for a few moments. While Dr Swank was replacing Mom's knee, the Captain and I had dinner, ran some network wire at Shane's house and cleaned Ruthie's gutters. Afterward we returned to the hospital to see Mom in her hospital room. I brought some cookies and fruit snacks, but she was pretty groggy even hours after her surgery.
In the next few days Mom progressed and was able to walk to and from the bathroom. I visited in the evening, and on the third day she was declared fit to leave. So in the afternoon Mom and I left Jewish Hospital and she spent the next few days on a bed in the green room recovering from her surgery. A nurse and a physical therapist visited every other day to ensure she was moving about and healthy. Since the surgery Mom had some trouble breathing, and at the insistence of the nurse she visited the hospital emergency room. Of course, the worst thoughts with breathing trouble are blood clots, but after a thorough checkup, she was declared healthy and we returned home.
So now nearly 3 weeks post surgery Mom is sleeping in her own room. This past Friday she had her stitches removed, and Dr Swank was impressed with her flexibility and motion. Hopefully her strength and flexibility will continue to increase with time.

Will, I see your website works. Would you like to help on a new building project for the shop? It's semi-historical, and you have a certificate. John,
I will be at interbike 9/25-28. Let me know if you are going to show, and I'll get you a badge, sans gun. I'm finished using decavirate as an email device for now.

Phones, I used to play with the X-ray machine at the dentist office where my mom works. I could've given you a few pointers.

Yeah, I tell people nuclear medicine is like X-ray, but the similarities end at "like". I need some pointers on where to find a part time or on call nuclear medicine job through my fourth year of school.

Reser, Bonnie Raitt is sadly misinformed. The world needs more energy, peace and understanding.

The Red Bull Downhill Road Race in Maui, CA

I wonder what could have made Brian Lopes uneasy about racing downhill with roadies?

Phones you need to experience being at the front of a field sprint at the end of a race. Once you experience it, you will understand why Lopes was possibly uneasy about racing downhill with roadies.

That article is a blast from the past, I don't think they hold that race anymore. We can go on and on about who handles bikes better, but honestly Downhill MTB bikes with 9 inches or more travel? Doesn't anyone remember downhill BMX? Those guys were hitting 75ft gaps on BMX bikes, no travel.

Nieport @ 2007.11.27 2337

I hope I didn't come off trying to argue over who handles their bikes better. It really comes down to what 'roadies' will do when it comes down to a sprint. I think Lopes says it best with "I've heard stories about some of these road guys. And I've done some road races; I've seen how crazy they go for a box of Power Bars, like it's $10 grand or something. If I was racing against E.C., Duncan [Riffle] and Weir I wouldn't be at all sketched out."

I agree with John. Those downhill bmx guys were amazing. Certainly no room for error in that event. Do they still hold downhill bmx races, or was that a short lived X-Games stunt?
