Acura Windshield
Posted by: Adam Fuson @ 2006.07.27.2220

As the windshield of the Acura had a chip directly in front of the driver and a growing crack emanating from the passenger side, I decided it was finally time to have it replaced. I contacted Progressive, my auto insurer, but they clearly would not cover my new windshield, so I next called a few auto glass companies. Joe Callahan had the complex windshield replaced on his BMW 740i at about the same time by SafeLite Auto Glass. Of course, the windshield of a 740 includes sensors and heaters and other complexities, which my simple windshield would not, but I assumed he had found the best deal available. So I called SafeLite first and received a quote from them. Then I waited two weeks before calling two other companies, which were much higher than SafeLite. Additionally, SafeLite was the only company to offer to do the replacement at my house, so I scheduled an appointment for the following Monday morning.

About 11 o'clock I received a call from a Manc named Stuart. He had first arrived in Cincinnati to help assemble the Son of Beast at Kings Island, but had met his future wife, a school teacher, and decided to stay in Cincinnati. Since then he had worked for a failed computer company before being hired by SafeLite to install windshields. Within half an hour Stuart had replaced the glass in the Acura. The process was simple enough, but he had some specialized tooling, which made the job a lot faster and well done. Finally, he explained his billing process, which was in the process of being converted to a paperless system. Car and payment information was transferred back to the SafeLite office through a blackberry instantly. All of their processes were well thought, and I was glad I had chosen SafeLite. Despite being one of the least expensive auto-glass companies, they seem to be one of the most professional. They will replace windshields and all other auto-glass except moon-roofs, as they cannot supply a lifetime guarantee to a moon-roof, which will undoubtedly leak eventually. Obviously, quality and efficiency are a high priority for them.

I'm jealous. I'd love to get a new windshield to replace my sandblasted one. I should probably make it idle consistently first, then get the play out of the steering, then maybe make the brakes feel a little better...

Looks like he painted the hood too.

Adam- there were a couple of clean Acura fenders at the junkyard in Columbus if you want to replace yours. There was also the piece between the hatchback and bumper. No luck getting the intake for my car though.

be wary of decavirate auto service, last time i went there i ended up killing my engine.

You killed the Subaru. What happened? The Cr-V hath recently recieved a Decavirate oil and filter change!

katherine @ 2006.09.03 2337
adam said the oil filter was in but it wasn't. oil leaked everywhere. now it makes a horrible noise.

Ned @ 2006.09.09 2011
I thought Decavirate was self service auto repair.

The technicians at Decavirate Auto are definitely certifiable.

BTW try some Prolong and sythetic oil in the engine, it may help the noise.

Always check for oils on the ground after a change- theres always the chance that something is cross-threaded.
