Ault Park World Champion
Posted by: Adam Fuson @ 2006.06.29.1218
O'brien Forbes (OB), the strongest rider in Cincinnati, has been racing for at least 20 years, and this year he has decided to officially retire. Consequently, last night represents his last Ault Park race. Often winning sprints without even standing O'brien has made winning the Ault Park race series seem effortless, while others struggle for 2nd place noticeably behind him. So to commemorate such a legend John Adams aided by Reser Bicycle designed a race by which to remember O'brien. As racers and spectators arrived at the start line they were greeted by a billboard size caricature of OB declaring, "OB #1." T-shirts had been printed with the same OB form including a haiku penned by Evan Thomas-Arnold. Additionally, O'brien masks mounted on paint stirs were passed through the crowd so that they might cheer the legend to his final Ault Park victory.
Just before the final race began a channel 9 news crew arrived to interview O'brien, who was smiling as big as ever. A segment is scheduled to air this Friday at 11pm including racing and OB's interview. If you would like to catch O'brien racing in person you may see him in Hyde Park Square this Saturday evening during the Hyde Park Blast! Buy a custom printed OB T-shirt and have him sign it.
Sweet love to his bike,
He governs the race with lust,
But never with gloves.

Congratulations to OB. I'm glad the younger cyclists at the races are able to have fun, unlike all the other folks who are stuck on themselves. There was a herd of teenagers who started an "Lets Go OB" chant like at the baseball games. My goal from here out is to exploit this spitit at the races and make the events more fun, especially since I suck at races.

My favorite was the terd in the newscast who was holding his arms crossed with the sign facing the wrong direction. At least Kirstin McKlane's dogs barked for O.B's last race. (somebody send her the do whisperer, please!!!) And does it take something more than 60 shirts, 100 OB face signs, WCPO and a 4'x8' sign 17 feet off the ground to get people excited?

I think this photo of a *racer proves Ault Park is just a staged event... Come to Son of Godzulla for an event with an unknown outcome!
