Looks like a Warrior
Posted by: Kyle Combs @ 2006.02.27.1322

After a sucessful mountain bike season in the collegiate ranks as well as here at home in local races, I began to evaluate my mountain bike as an asset or a liability, and if keeping my '02 Giant NRS for another year would be a good idea. After riding a hard tail and hearing a friend's dedication to them I decided this would be the best route to go for the next XC mountain season. Last Saturday I traveled to Reser Bicycle Outfiters to help assemble my new '05 Iron Horse, Warrior Race. Reser informed me that if I ordered now I could recieve the year end pricing on the bike, and this was one determining factor in the purchase. Among my other reasons for choosing the Warrior Race was its componentry and perfect size (19'5in). Some of the highlights of the bike are: 6061 Aluminum XC frame, Rock Shox Pilot SL fork (100mm), SRAM X.9 rear derailleur and SRAM X.7 trigger shifters, Truative Firex SX crank w/Gigapipe Isis bottom bracket, Hayes hydraulic HFX-9XC disk brakes w/ Mud cutter rotors, Easton stem/seatpost/ handlebar, monostay bridge, and it also comes w/ Crank Brothers' Eggbeater pedals.

After some help assembling the bike I took it home to see just what it could do. I was verry happy with the handling and climbing abilities of the hard tail. A lighter bike was another plus that greeted me on the climbs. I am also liking my first set of eggbeaters as well as disk brakes. Overall, I feel this bike wants to be riden fast and I am verry pleased with it. Hopefully, I can pilot it to more than one collegiate win and several more local wins this comming XC season.

(P.S. This is my first Decavirate article. I was hesitant to post because it pertained to mountain bikes. Fuse told me that if I didn't write an article about it he would "probably never talk to me again." As tempting as that sounds, I decided to go for the glory and write a mountain bike article!)

I am in the hotel lobby waiting with Melissa to checkout, while Charlie amuses himself in his new Subaru... I'll be home in a week.

This is a three part poll about bicycle lanes. This vote is the first question: Would you use bicycle lanes such as these?

  Yahoo polls suck.

Fuse @ 2006.03.06 1424
Don't you think wireless access should be open?

katherine @ 2006.03.29 1359
earphones, how is the gas milage on your crv? my parents are thinking of getting one.

Phones @ 2006.03.29 1925
It's not bad, I'd say it has to be better than most other SUVs'. I have noticed that my CRV tends to drink the gas at a quicker rate during sustained highway speeds of 70 or more mph. Other than that I love the vehicle and I'd recoment it to anybody.

Unless you already have an older Acura, then nothing even comes close.

Ned @ 2006.03.29 2002
  Yeah, old acura's are awesome

katherine @ 2006.03.30 0057
ned, do you need to sit through adam's grammar 101 workshop covering apostrophe usage?

Ned @ 2006.03.30 1906
It's just that I can't use them at the shop, so they get stored up and have to bust loose sometimes.'''''''''''''''''

i like the copenhagen aproach - extra curb

Fuse @ 2006.04.01 1602
  Why?

john @ 2006.04.01 1857
that way the car catches a little air then hits/lands on you.

Phones @ 2006.04.01 2028
Yeah... when a car hits me, I don't wanna be able to get up and ride away from the scene.

Ned @ 2006.04.05 0918
The extra curb would be kinda nice in some situations, like in a country where people pay attention to their driving.

I think the painted lanes would be better here though, as people tend to drift around the lane a lot more, and only pay attention when there are "exceptions" such as cyclists.

Ned @ 2006.04.05 0922
Fuse - who pays for the access and access point maintainence? The municipality or private citizens?
I was thinking about what would happen if I put free access up and down Monmouth Street from my shop- people in nearby apartments (up to 100 computers) could log on and choke my connection out..
